The Harsens Island Community Halloween Party will take place rain or shine Oct. 14 at Stewart Farm.
The event was last hosted in 2019, took a few years off due to COVID-19 and is now returning for its sixth year with activities for all ages from noon to 5 p.m.
“This year’s event will have games, crafts, pumpkin decorating, face painting, hayrides, a bounce house, a haunted forest scavenger hunt, Clay Township police and fire and a complimentary photo from Harsens Island Photography,” event coordinator Jen Weaver said. “Admission includes all of the events and lunch. We will have a costume contest broken down into age groups and a trunk decorating contest and will end the event with trunk or treat that starts at 4 p.m.”
Weaver is coordinating the event along with Tracy Cook and a newcomer, Stacy Williams.
The cost of admission is one canned food item for Algonac/Clay Township blessing boxes, as well as $10 for those 5 and older and $5 for seniors and those ages 2 to 5, a flyer for the event states. Children younger than 2 can attend at no cost.
Included in admission are hot dogs, chips, donuts, water or cider, as well as all of the activities, which also include a guess the weight of the pumpkin game.
“Attendees from the past have been asking since COVID shut us down when we would be holding the party again because it was an event on the island that everyone looked forward to,” Weaver said. “The excitement is in the air for this year’s Halloween party. We hope to not be stopped in the future from keeping it annual.”
Weaver said the first year started with 100 in attendance and numbers grew to over 500 in 2019.
“We are back and with all the buzz, we are estimating about 400 people this year,” she said.
She noted that organizers have been working on this year’s event since August.
Stewart Farm is located at 2007 Stewart Road on Harsens Island. There will be no animals permitted on the premises.
“We couldn’t do this without all of our generous sponsors,” Weaver said. “We hope everyone will take a moment and view the banner — 6 feet by approximately 10 feet — which has ads from our sponsors.”
